1999
marks the fifteenth anniversary of this extraordinary
play by Stella Kon. During this time it has been performed
in places as far as Scotland and Hawaii, as close as Singapore
and of course here in Malaysia. It is a play that transcends
barriers and leaves very few in the audience unmoved.
This has been proven in over a hundred performances in
which "Emily" has been played by more than six different
actresses. In this re-staging of the play, Dramalab decided
to retrace the roots of traditional Peranakan theatre
with a few added twists and turns. So will there be a
side of this steely Nynoya matriarch as yet unseen? Are
there hidden facets of this play as yet untouched? Can
the opulence and eventual decline of an era be portrayed
within the confines of a stage? Find out. Welcome to Dramalab's
production of Emily of Emerald Hill.
